Day 2 – Middle Head and Mica Hill

Group photo at the start of Mica Hill

Hikers were strong and resilient on Day 2 of Hike the Highlands Festival (2015) facing rain, fog, mud and wasps.  The day began with a sunrise hike on Middle Head hiking trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Fog, clouds and rain kept the sun away but we did see a light in a spruce tree ( you had to be there).

Later in the morning, the Glasgow Lakes Extension (Mica Hill) was enjoyed by hikers at the festival. This hike had a little bit of everything – heavy rains, fog, mud, wasps and yes even sun.  The forecast looked bleaked  – 15-25 mm of rain. But the hikers preserved, got to see mica and white quartz on Mica Hill.  They were also rewarded with sun on the hike back to the trail head and some views of Cape North, 4 mile beach, and Sugar Loaf mountain as the fog lifted.

Day 3 hikes are Tenerife, Money Point Gulch and Cabot Landing.
