Opening Night of the Hiking Festival – A Success

The 5th annual Hike the Highlands Festival opening night started off well with over 30 hikers enjoying the evening hike at Freshwater Lake,  then almost a full house for the opening ceremonies back at Heather Room, Glenghorm Beach Resort and later off to Thirsty Hikers Pub to hear some Celtic Entertainment.  What a great way to start the festival.

Hikers were treated to a special evening hike with the Freshwater Lake calm and majestic.  Kayakers came by to say hi and the hikers were treated to a rare sight -crayfish. Lyn Elliott, Guide and Ecological Integrity Communication Specialist, CBHNP, explained to the group what the project at Freshwater Lake was all about and the progress to date in getting rid of crayfish. Seems they are problem to the habitant. Lyn was assisted by Lisa Dixon and Krista Chin on this hike.  See pics below of the Freshwater Lake guided hike.
