Day 1 of the festival – Great turnout

Great turn-out for Day 1, Sept. 12, 2014,  of Hike the Highlands Festival.  50 hikers enjoying the first hike of the festival on Broad Cove Mountain trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Hikers were able to enjoy the great view at the summit – Warren Lake, North Bay, Ingonish Island and Middle Head. It was great seeing so many returning hikers and as well many new faces.

Opening ceremonies followed the evening hike with a lunch. Hikers were treated to a photo show by Wally Hayes highlighting the work of the photographers who recently completed the photography workshop – “Through the Lens”, hosted by Hike the Highlands.

Day 2, Sept. 13, 2014,  Hikes include a Sunrise hike at Coastal – 6:00 am,  Jack Pine and Coastal, 10:00 am. and Broad Cove Campground/Warren Lake at 1:00 pm. Sunny conditions are expected for most of the day.
