You could tell it was going to be a good day when I saw this incredible sunrise at Ingonish Centre at 6:25 am.

North River was the scene for two waterfall hikes today – Little Falls and Big Falls ( highest in Nova Scotia 104 ft). Red Island hike provided hikers the opportunity to hike near three bodies of water, Barachois River, St. Ann’s Bay (Atlantic Ocean) and MacDonalds Pond. Lots of mushrooms and fungi on the trails today. Smokey Towers provided hikers with two outstanding views – Ingonish and North Shore to end the afternoon.

Hiking North River Falls

Monday’s evening activity was the Haunted Hike around Freshwater Lake hosted by Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This event was well received and enjoyed by hikers at the festival.  Close to 140 hikers enjoyed the hikes today at the 10th Annual Hike the Highlands Festival.
