Beara Way – Dursey Island

Ireland is fortunate to have four long distance walks, with the last one joining Wicklow Way, Kerry Way & Dingle Way in 1996.  The Beara Way is 206 km long (128 miles) and has continued to be very popular by walkers/hikers.  One of the most unique attractions on this trail is Dursey Island, reached by a cable car, an eight minute ride. The island is 6.5 km long by 1.5 km wide. The island is over 400 years old. Population is ten, no pubs, or stores on the island.

During the fall, I was able to visit this island and our party were fortunate to enjoy a beautiful sunny day while exploring the island. The Dursey Island loop trail is approximately 14 km long and there are other short loops to take. The loop trail involves hiking up the middle of the island and coming back the road. There are three small villages you will pass and on top there is a signal tower. You will also see a couple of small islands. One of my most favorite days of the trip.

Below are some photos for you to enjoy of Dursey Island.
