Happy New Year to all the hikers and best wishes for a good health, happiness and lots of hiking adventures in 2012. Here’s some of the latest news from the Hike the Highlands Festival.

  • The Hikers Distance Award program will be introducing a new category – 75 km this year to go along with 25, 50 and 100 km.

  • The winners of the 2011 Hike the Highlands Festival photo contest have been announced. Click here to see the winning photos and winners. Every year it gets harder for the committee to pick winners based on the quality of photos submitted. Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all the hikers who submitted photos in the five categories.

  • Check out our Hike the Highlands Festival Blog updated regularly with posts on equipment, events, hikes and much more. Latest article looks at New Year’s Resolutions.

  • Group photos are a tradition with this festival and we are pleased to provide you with a number of photos taken during the festival. Many thanks to Lisa Dixon, Sharon Proctor, Robert Harrison, Tom Wilson, and other photographers.

  • The 2012 Schedule of Hikes are being worked on now and will be announced in the January 2012 newsletter.

  • Join our hiking community! Our festival has a Facebook fan page with over 600 fans and still growing. Please visit our facebook page and if you like it, click like. We would like to have you as a fan. There will be regular updates and news on our festival as well comments from our fans. Feel free to post photos of hikes.
