Day 6 – Salmon Pools & Fishing Cove Hikes

70 plus Hikers on Salmon Pools and Fishing Cove trails enjoyed perfect hiking conditions on day 6 of the Hike the Highlands Festival. It was sunny, not too hot and there was a breeze.
Hikers enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the Salmon pools trail with guide Daniel Aucoin. The 12.2 km hike featured 3 pools, and 2 cabins along the Cheticamp River. The picture featured on the cover of this year’s Hike the Highlands Festival brochure is hiker Trish McCormick from the second pool on Salmon Pools hiking trail.
Fishing Cove hikers enjoyed the view at the cove watching local fishermen fish mackerel and seeing hawks and eagles fly by. Fishing Cove was once a scottish fishing community that had a lobster cannery.
Today’s hikes on Day 7 of the festival, Sept. 18, included Acadien – 9:00 am, Le Buttereau – 2:00 pm. and Sunset hike on Skyline – 5:30 pm.
