Middle Head Trail – Full of Surprises

July 27, 2008 By Tom Wilson Uncategorized

Recently, my wife and I along with our nephew and his girlfriend hiked to Middle Head. Middle Head is one of Cape Breton Highlands National Park’s favorite hiking trails and is located just behind the Keltic Lodge on the Middle Head pensiula at Ingonish Beach, on the Cabot Trail.  Despite an overcast day, I took my camera and I am glad I did.

We arrived at the end of the trail where you can see Ingonish Island, and Cape Smokey. After a little water and snack break we headed over to the section where the tern colony was located. Now it is home to seagulls, cormorants, and some black guillemots. We were treated to a little show there and stayed almost an extra 20-30 minutes looking out from our binoculars and taking lots of pictures.

Here are a few pictures –
