Money Point Hike – A New Hike in 2008

June 8, 2008 By Tom Wilson Uncategorized

I got a sneak preview this week of one of the new hikes in this year’s Hike the Highlands Festival – Money Point.  This will be one of those wow hikes with great ocean views and mountain scenery. David and Tamara Rasmussen guided me to one section of the trail that takes you to a spectacular bare ridge where one can see Aspy Bay and White Point and some “big” ocean views.  This part of the trail is on private land – David and Tamara Rasmussen and the festival is indeed grateful for allowing us to share a special place of nature.
It rained during the hike but only lightly. I tried out my raincover for my daypack and it kept everything dry. My daypack is a Deuter Futura 28 AC Daypack from Mountain Equipment Co-op.  Despite the rain, I was still able to take a few pictures of the hike.

This new hike , Money Point, will definitely be one of the top hikes in this year’s festival with a number of big ocean views as Dave describes in his trail description. Hikers will have the opportunity to visit the fishing communities of St. Margaret’s Village and Bay St. Lawrence.

After the hike, I was treated to some great hospitality, and a nice cup of tea or two with snacks at the Rasmussen’s homestead before heading home.  I wished Tamara a Happy Birthday. Her and Dave were off to a Lobster Supper.

Below are some pics of our hike.
