Wales – A Walking/Hiking Destination

Few countries can boast what Wales has to offer for a walking/hiking destination area. It is the first country in the world to have a continuous coastal path – 870 miles long. The Wales Coastal Path open in May 2012.  Wales is also home to 641 castles, the most of any country in Europe.

It boasts three national trails and over thirty regional long distance routes. As well, it has three National Parks – Snowdonia, Breton Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast.  Wales has an excellent website on Walking their country.

The Snowdon Mountain is the highest mountain in Wales at 3560 feet (1085 metres). Many people know this mountain as the last mountain to climb in UK 3 Peaks Challenge.  It is one of the few mountains that I know where you can take a train up to the summit and back.
