Cape Mabou Highlands

Trail Information

Sunday, September 18, 2022- 12:00 pm.

At the Mabou Mines Trailhead you do a gentle climb on Fair Alistair’s Trail to the lookoff(about 25 minutes). From here you continue on this trail for another few minutes and pass by an old MacPhee foundation , approximately 200 years old. You then continue on the same trail a few more minutes and walk part way down to see northern coastal views . You then backtrack on this trail to join up with MacPhee trail which takes you inland through the woods for about 30 minutes, arriving at MacKinnon’s Brook Lane which is one km from the trailhead.

Driving Instructions to Trailhead –   This hike is on your way home from the festival.  Hikers would be leaving Ingonish and head to Baddeck (one hour). From Baddeck stay on the Trans Canada Hwy to Whycocomagh (30 minutes or so ). You will enter a roundabout and turn right – look for a sign Lake Ainsle, Skye Glen at the roundabout. Continue down the route and turn left . The sign should say Skye Glen, Brooks Village ( Route 252). Mabou is about 30 kms away. When you get into Mabou turn right at Mabou Harbour Road. Travel that road for 5 km  and then turn on to Mabou Mines road to the trailhead.  it’s about 7 km on the Mabou Mines Road. ( There’s a sign at the junction). About 20 minutes from Mabou.
