Why I walked 1000 miles – The Benefits

A new year brings excitement and challenges for new hiking goals in 2020. The first one that caught my eye was by Country Walking Magazine, walk 1000 miles in 2020. This is the third year for the program but the first year I saw it. The program has challenges of 500 miles, 1000 miles and new in 2020 – 1500 miles and 2000 miles.

Last year I walked/hiked 1060 km from April to December.  So I did the numbers, and I figured I can do the 1000 miles in 2020. Hikers need to walk/hike 2.73 miles or 4.36 km a day. I am off to a great start with 177 miles  (283 km ) for the month of January 2020.

Another hiking challenge is by the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) in UK. I have hiked five long distance trails, three are National trails. I need to hike two more National trails to receive my Bronze Award certificate. I am hoping to accomplish this in 2020.  LDWA has Silver Award Certificate (10 National Trails, Gold Award Certificate ( 15 National Trails) and Diamond  Award Certificate (19 National Trails).

What are your hiking challenges in 2020 ?  Start planning early and make things happe.n
