Festival Opens Today

The 19th Annual Hike the Highlands Festival opens today on Friday, September 9th with three hikes. They are – Slatey Point at 9:00 am., Middle Head at 2:30 pm., and Broad Cove Mountain at 5:30 pm. All trails today are located in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
Excitement is building as the festival team of volunteers prepares to welcome hikers and share the trails. Today’s weather forecast – A mix of sun and cloud. 30 percent chance of showers this morning. Fog patches dissipating this morning. Wind becoming northeast 20 km/h this afternoon. High 20. UV index 5 or moderate.
On sad note, we mourn the death of our Queen Elizabeth II who passed away yesterday at the age of 96. Our thoughts & prayers go out to the royal family, Britain & Commonwealth countries and her many admirers through out the world. My Dad who was a veteran and joined the Canadian Armed Forces for World War II often spoke he fought for Canada & the Queen. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
