It is a phrase hikers are hearing too often and featured in almost all the outdoor magazines – ie. See the Summer issue of Explore – Canada’s outdoor magazine (see attached photo).
The pandemic played a big role in increasing users on the trails and the physical & mental benefits of being outdoors.
Climate change and environment impact of users will make it harder to have sustainable trails in the future. Trail Budgets are not increasing like inflation making it harder to maintain trails.
In the future, Trail counters and data will become so important in planning for sustainable trails.
